Long Count Calendar
Tomorrow the Mayan Long Count Calendar celebrates a major new cycle! Much like our Y2K celebrations, their calendar turns over from 12.19.19.17.19 to 13.0.0.0.0!
Today is b'ak'tun 12 k'atun 19 tun 19 winal 17 k'in 19
Tomorrow is b'ak'tun 13 k'atun 0 tun 0 winal 0 k'in 0
B'ak'tun . K'atun . Tun . Winal . K'in
1 Kin = 1 day
20 K'in = 1 Winal
18 Winal = 1 Tun = 1 year (approx)
20 Tun = 1 K'atun = 20 years
20 K'atun = 1 B'ak'tun = 394 years
Since this will only be 13 of 20 before it rolls over, we have a LONG time before the Mayan calendar hits 20 B'ak'tuns on October 13, 4772.
And since there are four even higher-order counts, it is a nearly inconceivable time before the Mayan calendar runs out of dates.
20 b'ak'tun = 1 piktun
20 piktun = 1 kalabtun
20 kalabtun = 1 k'inchiltun
20 k'inchiltun = 1 alautun
The last time the Mayan Calendar Long Count rolled over to a new B'ak'tun was September 18, 1618, when it rolled over to 12.0.0.0.0, and before that it was June 15, 1224 when it rolled to 11.0.0.0.0. It will roll over to 14.0.0.0.0 on March 26, 2407.
